Wood Treatment Process

 

Sandblasting is smoothing a rough surface 

or making a smooth surface rough by abrasion.

This process, which can be summarized as the high-pressure spraying of abrasive materials, can be used for wood, metal, glass, concrete, and brick.

Here are different examples of sandblasted wood.

The following is an example of heavy sandblasting.

The following is an example of medium sandblasting.

The following is an example of light sandblasting.

The floor timbers of this unit should have very light sandblasting.

Then the wood needs to be charred.

Charring means partially burning so as to blacken the surface.

Charring is also a technique used for wood preservation. In Japan, this traditional technique is called Yakisugi or Shō Sugi Ban.

In the case of this project, after very light sandblasting, medium-heavy charring, 

and the final black coating, 

the floor timbers should look exactly like the following two pictures:

The interior walls and ceilings will have wood with a light sandblasted finish 

as the floor timbers.

The wood is medium/heavy charred and treated with a final black dye

and will look exactly as in the following pictures.
